Our Story

Dick Vanderwel is the driving force behind Vandercraft Construction, serving homeowners of the Lower Mainland with top quality construction services.

Dick first set foot on Canadian soil in 1968, as an 8 year old (you do the math!), after immigrating with his parents and brothers from the Netherlands. After three years spent in Ontario, 1971 saw them setting down roots in the beautiful Fraser Valley. As the son of a pastor, Dick learned his love of craft and woodworking by watching his dad whittle away in his garage. He was driven by that passion for art and construction and ultimately chose to pursue a career that would satisfy both.

In 1986 Dick launched his construction company, then named “Craftwell Construction.” Dwayne was born to Dick and his wife Melody the same year, and joined his dad on the job site soon after. Saturdays would find him following his dad around the job sites, picking up as much advice and as many tools as he was permitted to! In 2007 Dwayne finally joined his dad full-time, and spent five years learning and perfecting the Vanderwel way. Son Dwayne grew up into the Company helping his Dad & learning the trade. Some time passed before Dwayne moved on and gained more framing, renovating and project management experience. In 2015 he returned with that experience and together Father & Son formed a Partnership. 

In 2017 VanderCraft Construction Inc. came into being, and Dick and Dwayne have since worked on building the company. Together they’ve committed to strong company values and a vision for the future that leaves clients and trades totally satisfied. What they wanted for themselves to be the same as what they want for you: to make your home safe, whole, and well.

With many combined years of experience in the construction industry VanderCraft Construction Inc. has concentrated on Residential Home Renovations & Additions and has also completed several Commercial Renovations, Tenant Improvements & Daycare remodels. Recently, Dwayne has moved on from the Company, venturing out into the Commercial Construction field to continue to gain more knowledge & experience.
